Since we began school with Jakob back in 1999 there has never been a day when school has been cancelled...... so today is the first in 16 years.
The weather had been bad last night and we checked the power outages this morning to discover that although we still had power in Kings Meadows many suburbs and towns did not. There was no notices about school closures on the government website so I assumed that although there was no power in parts of Norwood the schools weren't affected.
I dropped Lilly off at Primary school - their power was ok, and then headed to Queechy only to be stopped by teachers at the gates informing us that there was no school as there was no power - Katie and Henry were quite happy by this. I then drove Nathan to College and we saw on our way, trees down and debris blowing about everywhere. On Thursdays Nathan only has a class in the mornings and last thing in the afternoon. So I went to the gym while he was in class. By the time I came out of the gym and headed to college my car was getting rocked quite badly in any open space. Hence I obeyed the news warnings and Nathan did not go back this afternoon.
I received a call from Norwood at about 1pm to ask if I could please come and get Lilly as the wind was causing damage to the school. The kids would be ok, but if possible could I come and get her. I picked her up and she now joins her siblings - no school today.....
I really hope this weather abates soon.....
