Only a short reply this week! Or shorter...
We spent most of our day with the members for a ward BBQ,
which turned out pretty well. The AMWAY lady and her family came along too,
even though it was a bit of a far drive (maybe 35mins). The ward members were
great with them and hopefully provides further opportunities for our friendly
relationship to become a bit more gospel orientated.
The Less active (no no longer I guess) old lady bought us
two massive steaks last week, maybe $10-15 each, cheaper meat, but meat is
expensive in Japan. I was manning the hibachi BBQ (coal and not gas) and the
members were quite surprised when I just put the steak on there without dividing
it up into chopstick sized portions, got a lot of attention. I cut it up
afterwards to share of course but it seemed like it was the first time for some
of them seeing that much meat in one place. We were all well fed. The BBQ
was fun.....
We also are using a new place for email. It is really
unsettling. Bishop wasn't too happy when he found out we were paying to use
internet cafes, so he took us to a place missionaries used to go. It is this
small group of 3 computers in the middle of about 100 silent high school and
uni students that we had to sign up using our Universities name from home and
take off our name badges. Every time I hit a key I feel like they are getting
mad at me... But we also have talked with a lot of them, so maybe more
opportunity afterwards.
..... At the end of the week we were able to set up a few lessons though,
so this week will be good. Tomorrow we have interviews too, this will prove to
be interesting. I look forward to getting to know Welch kaicho a bit more.
I am not sure what else to add except that I will hopefully
write more next week. And reply to everyone else. It was awesome to see
pictures of Josh coming home, .....
And I am only an amazing son (at times) because I have
amazing parents. Just for you to know, the way you brought me up was probably
twice as good as any super good Utah parents. You got it right more or less.
Keep up the good work! .....
Oh, our Eikaiwa was good this week. We are back up at about
20 or so, with more to come. I love to teach Eikaiwa. Trying to make it
exciting and engaging can be a challenge, but I am slowly learning......
