Beaconsfield

Since last holidays I have been promising the girls that we would visit the Beaconsfield Mine and Heritage Centre. So Wednesday we headed to Beaconsfield in the rain and were quite surprised. It's been years since we were last there (I think we only had four kids then), and it was well worth the visit. As Lilly said "this is way better than I thought it would be".
One part of the centre had old phones, an exchange, telephone box and typewriters. The phones were set up so that some connected to others. I had to smile when Katie couldn't figure out how to use the dial phone that we had in our home when I was growing up. I then laughed when she asked me to come and listen to the sound the phone was making,.... it was a dial tone!!

There was also lots of old machinery that was hands on....
Upstairs there was writing with ink, an old wheel chair and even an old pedal organ. Lilly hopped on the organ and wanted to know where the on switch was. I showed her how she had to pedal to make the music come out of the organ....

There also was many other activities and things to see; including gold panning
