The language is coming along okay, some days I feel
invincible with it, others I feel like I am barely 3 year old capable... I heard from our Japanese
class that my old area of Katsura was worst hit by the typhoon, it must have
been interesting for the Elders there. Here the river flooded a bit, destroying
all the nice paths along it's banks and creating a huge mess. I asked one of
our investigators how often that happened, it seems that it happens every year
pretty much....
Futons are comfy, but every now and then I miss a raised
bed.... I actually sleep on a pile of like 4 futons, as
futons are like a hard blanket/piece of foam. 4 futons is about half as thick
as a mattress...
This week he wrote...
.... I
don't think I will be transferred, but there is the chance, so might be a brand
new area for me next week.
The week has been fairly uneventful all in all. we had a
koukan on Friday, which is where we swap companions for a day and a night. I
got to go with a 13th transfer Brazilian called Fernandes choro. We had a good
time, and I learnt some tips. Was so nice to be with an Elder who could
actually speak the language pretty well too. But I've been trying hard this
week to improve mine when talking to people, and last night we finally had some
success finding. It was a 45 year old Filipino woman who spoke English. Gave
her my polished Japanese, and it was dark, so I almost jumped out of my skin
when she was like, wait... you're from Australia? In English. She wanted to
hear more, so I set up a time for this week, hope it goes well. I am so glad to
have the opportunity to teach in English too.
I am taller than most Japanese, yeah. Their door ways are so
low, Yoshida choro has to duck in the church building and peoples houses....
I understand more and more daily,
especially after Sundays, as I can usually take it easy and just listen.
Singing in Japanese is good, but it sounds tinny....
