We've had a lot of wet and wild weather this past weekend. There was meant to be a Typhoon coming through, but it blew out before it reached us, which was a bit boring. We had lots of wind Saturday, and lots of rain Sunday and today, but that's about it....
On Friday we went out to Lunch with our investigator and got
hokonomiyaki, which is like cabbage cakes that have meat in them and taste a
bit fishy. That was nice. You have like a hot plate in the middle of the table,
and cook them yourself.
Yesterday the members gave us a ton of food. Not sure if it's
meant to be part of their fast offering or something, but we got like bags of
chips, cereal, breakfast sausage things, heaps of eggs, bread and New Zealand
Ice cream (whatever food the members could find that was foreign it seems). Was
tough bringing it all home and waiting til 8pm to eat it.
Today while shopping I found milo! That's pretty cool. Was
an instant buy on the spot. It's actually in a finer powder form than the one
at home, and has a Japanese baseball-er on the front (Baseball is extremely popular
in Japan), But tastes the exact same as the one at home.
Have I mentioned I'm becoming fairly adept at ping pong? We
play it a lot. After Eikaiwa (English class) every Tuesday, Pday when we have time, and any
other chance we get, like Friday nights with some of the members. I went from
barely being able to hit it to winning almost every game! .... We have a ward member that helps us out all the time, he's like 72 and as
fit as if he's 40. Master at ping pong and still runs his own company. I'm
impressed by the capability of the older people here in Japan. A lot are just
so healthy and fit, despite being in 70's or 80's. Maybe I will pick up on that
from living here for two years. I think the reason for it is because they have
a lot of respect for their parents, as part of the culture. Fulfillment of Old
Testament prophecy probably.....
