In fixing up the pantry last week I was conscious of the occasional leak that occurs, which we attributed to either heavy rain or the need to unblock some household waste in the outside ceramic basins (drains). With the intent of sealing the brickwork I went digging and discovered that we have a culprit piece of clay pipe that is split. As you can see from the picture, I am no plumber and my efforts to fix the damage with some all purpose leak sealer and duct tape did not make the grade!
Looks like it will be up to the professionals. I am shaking to think what the likely cost is going to be, as the whole lot really ought to be replaced. What is not obvious in the picture is that this area is underneath the back steps. Fortunately this area is at the highest point and can accommodate my large stature!
Basin drain where we suspected the leak was occurring.

Good to see I'm not the only bloke who would try to fix a pipe with some tape :)
