This past week has been pretty good,.....
We did a sports evening on Wednesday, but it kinda flopped
because it wasn't organised too well. I dominated everyone at Ping Pong then it
was kinda boring, will try again next week.
We helped an investigator clean his house as well as teach
him. Lets just say I think it is impossible to find a house with more garbage
than this one had. The guy has something that apparently stops him from
cleaning or looking after himself very well. The entire apartment was literally
piled up to the waist in noodle packets, plastic bags and the like. He slept
like a mouse buried in garbage, thankfully it was mostly dry stuff so no smell,
but it was disturbingly messy. I finally convinced him to let us in so we could
help clean (could only see a little bit of mess from entry way), and it took
about 4 hours (in two visits) to get his main room cleaned up. Still two rooms
to go. Biggest mess was the sink though, which had few a centimetre thick layer
of mold and gunk (that was moving and stank like the most terrible things), I
kept at it until it was sparkling. KFC skills went in to play there, my
companion was ready to give up after 10 minutes. I think we filled about 30
garbage bags at the end (half were full of PET bottles). Still more to go, will
be a labour of love for the next few weeks. ....
As the oldest missionary in the district (not best Japanese)
I translated for district meeting for the two nihonjin elders on Friday. It's the
first time I have done it, and it was definitely a challenge, but I am grateful
I can even attempt to do it now, when I can distinctly remember only a few
months ago being no where near that level.
Saturday and Sunday were great, as it is kind of a bit of a
break from missionary non stop work and to spiritually recharge.....
Easter isn't celebrated in Japan as it is kinda around the
same time as Sakura season, which is celebrated in Japan. There are a few
displays with rabbits and eggs, but nothing really has changed, it's not like
Christmas where all the stores and decorations were Christmasy.....
