Missionary Moments

It's been a wet week! So much rain. Apparently it is unusual for this time of year. Thinking back to last year I have to agree. I hear though that after this last weekend it's going to be hot hot hot until winter... I am not sure which I prefer. It is certainly hot today.
..... I have worked in the rain storms all week. Not the most productive for missionary work, but kind of fun after you get soaked enough. I put a hole in my rain coat pants a couple of months ago, and it seems that is enough to get the whole of me wet.
It rained so hard on Saturday that there was flash flooding everywhere. We went with a member to visit a hospital and we were driving through small lakes to get there. Every road had turned into a water-fall. Thankfully though, my area managed to escape all this rain with minimal damage. However Fukuchiyama area, which is part of my old district of Miki, got devastated it seems. We got a text from the Zone Leaders last night asking for help from everyone in Kyouto zone to gather and head over to help with some clean up. Required us to wake up before 4am this morning to catch the first train out and travel the 2 and bit hours up to fukuchiyama... Except once we arrived in Kyouto eki with everyone we get told it was cancelled because all the train lines up there are down. Returned and managed to get back to the apartment before 6:30am. Went ahead and deep cleaned some areas in the apartment and then layed down, waking up after study time was over. Making good use of my time there...
Apart from the rain I have been enjoying beginning our less active work. We are pretty much tracking down every single person in the records and seeing if they still exist, have interest, or completely hate us. Most we have found so far don't actually exist anymore(lost to the records of the Church), but there are a couple with interest in maybe learning and coming back!
We rode a lot this week, maybe averaging about 30-40km a day quite a lot to do in the rain and heat!
Church on Sunday was pretty good, we took the train there though because I flatly refused to ride in the rain again,..... During Church I am finally at the stage where I can more or less participate in classes. It is quite nice to discuss old testament with people again.
We had dinner at Bishops house in the evening. That was a lot of fun. We shared one of those object lessons (the knife and cups one) from the ones you sent me and made good friends with them. He has a really nice family of 6, .....
