My week seemed to go by fast, but long days.
I got to work getting the apartment in order. The problem
with missionary apartments I have found is that everyone seems to feel that
because they are only there temporarily, there is no need to change the space,
or if something is in a particular place, you don't move it because it wasn't
you that put it there... anyway, rearranged a few things, washed the curtains
and chucked out a lot of stuff. Cleaning is quite fun, I feel like I
am Mum when I do it though, reminds me a lot of her anyway, I am glad I
managed to learn an appreciation for a clean space back home......
It was rather annoying and rained a lot this week. Rain
effects dendou a lot, but despite it, things are looking like they will be
going upwards in this area.
We had Zone meeting on Friday. Kyoto Zone is pretty big, about
30 missionaries.....
We went to the fireworks Friday night. They were the most
amazing I have ever seen. I wish I could have got them on camera more, my
camera just cannot take pictures of fireworks very well. It was raining, but in
true Japanese fashion, they had the festival anyway, there was just a lot of
wet people.
It was a very exciting weekend. It was raining really hard
and windy Saturday day, and as our appointments fell through, we took time to prepare
lessons and things in the apartment during the inclement weather. It got fine
towards evening and we decided to ride to Kusatsu city centre to check if they
were running the Japanese class still only to arrive at the place and be
informed it was canceled because the Typhoon is coming silly (but they were
super excited to have us join them in two weeks). I thought the Typhoon
that we had heard about had already hit and passed. Nope, we got a message from
the Bishop saying Church may be canceled the next day, and we returned home,
planned for the next day, went to bed and woke up Sunday morning to watch
the Typhoon start from our window. Church was canceled and we were stuck in the
apartment til about 2pm when it started to die down a little. The sisters rang
me to tell me they were going to go out and see if any service needed doing,
and I decided we'd try to do the same. It was still blowing a bit hard and
raining, but we managed to do a few things like untangle bikes from trees and
pick up benches. We had our coats on, but I still managed to get pretty wet. We
got back into the apartment by 4pm to dry off, only to find that the weather
had become fine all of a sudden. Brief respite and back out to work for the
day. The Typhoon put a big hole in our plans for the weekend, but was pretty
exciting.....
