Cradle Mountain Break

On Monday and Tuesday Jason took me to Cradle mountain to celebrate my upcoming birthday. I have been asking him for about two years for some time away there and finally after some encouragement from one of his work peers he got the hint!
So on Monday after the kids were dropped at school and Jakob's L2 driving test (he passed), we headed for Cradle Mountain. Monday was overcast and drizzly but it was still a beautiful place to be. So we donned some wet weather gear and decided to walk around Dove Lake. It was so peaceful, because of the weather there was not allot of other people around. I thought it would need to to be sunny to appreciate the beauty of the area, but its different in the wet. Listening to steady patter of rain on the plants, mini water falls from all the rain we've had lately, mist in the air and all the native flora soaking up the rain... and of course the company was good too.
On Tuesday the weather was beautiful so we decided to walk from the Cradle Mountain Lodge to Dove Lake on the track that winds around the hills it's about 12km through all sorts of terrain. It was a long walk it took us just under 3 hours, but gave us time to really appreciate the area.

Cradle Mountain and Dove Lake in the rain

I took lots of pictures of all the plants just to see what sort of pictures the iPhone could take. Most of them turned out rather nice.

A mini waterfall from the rain running down the hill.

This little fellow was just sitting outside where we were staying just chewing on a plant and didn't seem phased by our presence.
This Cheeky fellow I am sure was stalking us. He tried to get into our room when we opened the door onto the balcony. Then when we were walking on Tuesday he seemed to be there whenever I got food out. At one stage he swooped down and tried to grab my bun out of my hand. In the end I gave up trying to eat anything and waited until we were under cover and it was safe to do so.

On our walk on Tuesday next to the boardwalk was this wombat happily chewing on the grass and not really caring that we were there.
